Hope in the Storm

Over the weekend we had terrible storms where I live. Forks of lightening that pierced the sky followed by thunder that shook the house. Then the torrential rain and strong winds. I can just imagine what Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz must have felt like. My fur-baby, Betty, is terrified of storms. She is completely inconsolable. It is heartbreaking that there is nothing I can do to calm her or allay her fears.

My husband and I both try to reason with her. I know that is silly but we try anything. We try reminding her that we have never let her be hurt in storms before now. We tell her how much we love her and will continue to protect her. But all this falls on deaf ears until the storm passes.

Aren’t we often like that with our Heavenly Father? The storm comes and we completely forget all that He has brought us through in the past. We forget that He is good and sovereign. We forget that He may not prevent the storm or make it “just go away” but He is with us during the storm.

Deuteronomy 31:6 (ESV) Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the Lord your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you

Hebrews 13:5 (ESV) … I will never leave you nor forsake you

Isaiah 41:10-13 (KJV) Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.

Matthew 28:20 (ESV) … And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.

Here are just a few of the reminders in God’s word that we need not fear because He is with us and will remain with us. These are His promises and He keeps everyone of His promises. He is not a man that can lie.

His faithfulness gives us hope. He is for us and not against us. He is fighting battles we know nothing about. He is a good good Father.

When the storms come, and they will, remind yourself of His goodness and that you are not alone. Remind yourself of all the storms that He has brought you through. Remember most of all that He loves you.
